The rating society

The TV show Black Mirror is about futuristic events that can happen and how humans will behave. In the episode 1 in season 3, it’s about how social status will influence our life in the future. In the episode, everybody has a chip installed on their eyes that makes them able to see everyone’s rating number next to their face which goes from 0 to 5. In each interaction between people they can rate each other till 5 stars or less, and the more 5 stars the more overall rating you get, and if people rate you low, your overall rating status go down. On their device they can see the person’s life, like a profile with pictures and things about them.

In this future society, people depend on their rating number to buy houses, to rent cars, get special preferences
and benefits. The greater your rating number, the more social popularity you get. This caused people
to be fake in their actions and treat people good only to get good ratings. It’s like money, but it’s rating
stars. Also, there is less conversation since they can see everything about the person’s life on their
device right away instead of asking them.

That technology made people dumb and be dependable on people’s judgement (rating) on them. I think that episode is very realistic on the issue today of people relying so much of how others see them.
